Bob Inman (Captain Saturday, Home Fires Burning)

The festival is one of the best-organized events of its type I've ever attended, and is a testament both to your efforts and to the appreciation for literature of the people who live there...I also appreciate the opportunity to meet some of your young people. Sharon's class of bright young folks at the Fernandina high school was a fun experience, and I hope I was able to pass along a nugget or two they'll take with them as they read and write.

Billy Moore (Little Brother Real Snake, Cracker's Mule)

Every aspect of the Amelia Book Island Festival was wonderful, and the visit to the school in Hilliard got it off to a great start. The atmosphere at the school was very positive and not only where I was visiting with students. Students and staff on every part of the campus I visited were welcoming, polite, and articulate.

Authors in Schools: A Gift to the Community

Boosting Children’s Interest in Reading & Writing

The Festival began its Authors in Schools Program in 2002. The program now sends authors to every school in the county. Last year authors visited and talked with 6,000 children from kindergarten through high school. Students of all ages get to meet and hear an author in person, many times igniting an interest in reading, writing and enjoying books. Through the years, teachers have greatly appreciated the program and all the authors who have visited schools express enthusiasm for the reception they receive.
