Children’s Chapter

Action, fun, storytelling and excitement – young readers will find it all at the Festival's Children's Tent area. Admission is free.

Dozens of activities stimulate the imagination and challenge the creativity of children aged 4-12. They'll meet the authors of books about everything from sea creatures and pirates to true stories. Interactive programs encourage children not only to read, but also to tell their own stories as they too become authors and illustrators.

A sampling of what kids will find:

  • Readings and interactive
    programs all day

  • Storytellers

  • Music

Hands-on activities, such as:

  • Author Treasure Hunt: visit tables of the authors, ask questions about their stories, and collect signatures to win a prize.

  • Make a "Library Critter" or a story character hand puppet

  • Create your own book

  • Have photos taken with "Amelia and Fernando," stand-up manatee mascot cutouts.

While crafts and tent activities are primarily suited for children 12 and under, all ages are welcome to visit, meet the authors and get books signed. Books for middle-school readers are included along with younger children's books.
