Apply for the 2008 Amelia Island Book Festival Writers Scholarship in Memory of Christa Powell Walley

Applications for the 2008 Amelia Island Book Festival Writers Scholarship in Memory of Christa Powell Walley are due by September 15, 2008.

The scholarship is named for the late Christa Powell Walley, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Powell of Fernandina Beach, and honors Christa’s memory and her love of writing. The Powells have joined with the Amelia Island Book Festival in sponsoring the scholarship.

The scholarship is dedicated to encouraging writers in their pursuit of a literary career. It is awarded at the annual Amelia Island Book Festival.  The scholarship is available to Nassau County high school seniors, undergraduate and graduate college students who have ties to Nassau County, Florida.

Rosemary is the Hilliard Branch Manager of Nassau County Public Library System.  She has a Library and Information Science MA from the  University of South Florida and is currently working on a Masters in creative writing from Queens University of Charlotte.

Previous scholarship recipients include Cedric Bacon, Sarah Baxter, Amanda Mazzella, Julie Slough and Heidi Marshall.

To be eligible for the scholarship, you must be:

1. Nassau County high school senior, undergraduate or graduate college student who has ties to Nassau County, Florida.

2. In good academic standing with your high school, college or university.

3. Seeking a degree in the English, journalism or literature-related fields.

4. A citizen of the United States.

5. If college student, you must show ties to Nassau County (for instance, having attended school here, having resided here prior to entering college, parents or grandparents living here, etc.).

To determine your eligibility, please complete and return this document. Our committee will only accept applications mailed to us via U.S. Postal Service. Do not e-mail your application.
